Growing Conditions:
Heliconia caribaea 'Bonnie Kline' thrives in warm, humid environments typical of tropical and subtropical regions. It prefers rich, well-draining soil and grows best in full sun to partial shade. Regular watering is essential to maintain the plant’s lush appearance, and it benefits from high humidity and protection from strong winds. It is frost-sensitive and should be protected or grown indoors in colder climates.
Uses:
'Bonnie Kline' is perfect for use as a dramatic focal point in tropical gardens, mixed borders, or as a striking container plant in large spaces. Its vibrant bracts are also highly prized in the cut flower industry, where they add a tropical flair to floral arrangements. The plant’s impressive size and color make it an excellent choice for creating a bold, exotic garden display.
Maintenance:
Heliconia 'Bonnie Kline' is relatively low-maintenance once established. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, and benefits from periodic feeding with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Prune away dead or damaged leaves and spent bracts to encourage new growth and keep the plant looking tidy. Due to its size, it may need ample space to spread.

Pair Heliconia 'Bonnie Kline' with other bold tropical plants such as gingers, bird of paradise (Strelitzia spp.), or elephant ears (Colocasia spp.) to create a lush, vibrant garden display. It also combines well with ferns and other shade-tolerant plants in partially shaded areas.
