Why Native Plants Are Great Plants to Grow in Your Garden
Adenanthos sericeus ‘Dwarf Woolly Bush’ is a compact, evergreen native shrub prized for its exceptionally soft, silver-grey foliage and naturally neat form. A smaller-growing selection of the iconic Woolly Bush, this cultivar delivers year-round texture and colour without the size of the standard species, making it ideal for modern gardens, coastal landscapes, and low-maintenance designs.
Small, inconspicuous red to pink tubular flowers appear sporadically through winter and spring. While subtle, they are attractive to native birds and add seasonal interest without detracting from the foliage.
The standout feature of this plant is its finely divided, silky-soft foliage in stunning silver-grey tones. The foliage has a woolly texture that catches the light beautifully and provides strong contrast against darker green plants and hardscapes.
Forms a dense, rounded shrub with a tidy habit.
Grows to approximately 1–1.5m high and 1–1.5m wide, making it perfect for smaller gardens or feature plantings.
Sun: Full sun to light shade
Soil: Free-draining sandy or gravelly soil
Water: Low water once established
Climate: Ideal for coastal and temperate Australian conditions
Frost: Light frost tolerant once established
Excellent salt tolerance makes it a standout choice for seaside gardens.
Feature shrub in native or coastal gardens
Low informal hedging or screening
Accent plant for silver-themed landscapes
Large pots and planters
Drought-tolerant and waterwise designs
Very low maintenance. Avoid heavy pruning; light shaping after flowering is sufficient if required. Does not like phosphorus-rich fertilisers — use native-specific, low-phosphorus fertilisers only.
A fantastic alternative to the standard Woolly Bush where space is limited. Performs best in well-drained soils and open positions with good air circulation. Overwatering should be avoided.
Pairs beautifully with Grevillea groundcovers, Westringia, Leucophyta, Lomandra, and other silver or fine-textured Australian natives.
