10 of Our Favourite Grevilleas for Sunshine Coast Gardens
Gardenia 'O So Fine' is a compact, evergreen shrub bred for its prolific flowering, dense growth habit and exceptional garden performance. Producing masses of beautifully fragrant white blooms from late spring through summer, with repeat flowering in warmer months, it offers all the charm of traditional gardenias in a smaller, low-maintenance plant. Its naturally rounded shape makes it ideal for low hedging, borders, feature planting, pots and courtyards, while its glossy foliage provides year-round colour and structure.
Abundant, highly fragrant white blooms are produced from late spring through summer, often continuing with repeat flushes into autumn in warm climates. The flowers attract bees and make excellent cut flowers.
Small, glossy dark green evergreen leaves form a dense, compact canopy, providing an attractive backdrop to the flowers throughout the year.
Fruit is rarely produced in cultivated gardens. Small orange seed capsules may occasionally develop after flowering but are generally insignificant.
A compact, rounded evergreen shrub with a naturally dense habit.
Mature Size: Approximately 80cm–1m high × 80cm–1m wide
Sun: Full sun to part shade. In hotter climates, protection from harsh afternoon sun will encourage the best flowering.
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soils enriched with organic matter.
Water: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, maintain even soil moisture, particularly during flowering and extended dry periods.
Frost: Tolerates light frosts but young plants should be protected from heavy frost.
Wind: Prefers sheltered positions protected from strong, drying winds.
Climate: Well suited to subtropical, tropical, warm temperate and coastal climates throughout Australia.
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a dense, rounded shape and encourage repeat flowering. Feed with a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants during spring and late summer. Apply mulch to help retain moisture and keep the root system cool.
Gardenia 'O So Fine' is valued for its naturally compact growth, prolific flowering and rich perfume. Requiring less pruning than larger varieties, it is an excellent choice for smaller gardens, courtyards and containers while still delivering the classic beauty and fragrance that gardenias are renowned for.
