Juniper 'Spartan' is a fast-growing, evergreen conifer renowned for its naturally dense, upright pyramidal form and rich green foliage. Highly valued for screening, feature planting and formal landscapes, it provides year-round structure with minimal maintenance. Its excellent drought tolerance, adaptability and resistance to heat make it an outstanding choice for Australian gardens, while its naturally symmetrical habit requires little pruning to maintain its attractive shape.
Produces small, inconspicuous male and female cones during spring. The flowers are not considered ornamental.
Dense sprays of rich emerald green evergreen foliage remain attractive throughout the year, creating a soft yet formal appearance.
Female plants may produce small blue-grey berry-like cones that mature over time and provide food for birds.

Soil: Prefers well-drained soils and adapts to sandy, loamy and clay soils provided drainage is good.
Water: Water regularly during establishment. Once established it is highly drought tolerant and requires only occasional watering during extended dry periods.
Frost: Excellent frost tolerance.
Wind: Tolerates coastal conditions and moderate to strong winds.
Climate: Well suited to subtropical, temperate, Mediterranean and coastal climates throughout Australia.
Very low maintenance. Prune lightly if required to maintain the desired size or shape, although its naturally tidy habit usually requires little attention. Feed annually with a slow-release fertiliser in spring and mulch around the base to retain soil moisture during establishment.
Juniper 'Spartan' is one of the most reliable upright conifers for Australian gardens. It combines rapid growth with excellent disease resistance, drought tolerance and year-round colour. Its dense foliage and naturally uniform shape make it an excellent alternative to Italian Cypress where a slightly broader screening tree is desired.
