Growing Conditions
Position: Full sun to part shade. In hot climates, protection from harsh afternoon sun can be beneficial.
Soil: Prefers rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter.
Water: Keep consistently moist during establishment and throughout warmer weather, particularly while flowering. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
Frost: Protect from heavy frost, particularly when young.
Wind: Prefers a sheltered position protected from strong or drying winds.
Climate: Well suited to warm subtropical conditions including South East Queensland. Mulching around the root zone helps retain moisture and keeps the shallow root system cool.

Maintenance

Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a dense, compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Watch for common Gardenia pests such as scale, aphids and whitefly.
